TYPE 1-NATURALLY STRAIGHT HAIR or CHEMICALLY STRAIGHTENED HAIR (Relaxed hair)
Straigthair is classified as a 1.There is absolutely no curl pattern in the hair. It is completely straight. It is also the most resilient hair of all of the hair types. It tends to be oily, but can also be dryht
Straight hair is very sleek and shiny because there is no curl pattern which allows the light to reflect off of the hair giving it a shiny finish.
Wavy hair is classified as a 2. Wavy hair lies somewhere between straight and curly hair.
Sub categories: 2A,2B,2C
2A hair is fine.
2B hair is medium textured.
2C hair is thick and coarse with a frizzier look.
Wavy hair is typically more prone to frizz. While type A wavies can easily alternate between straight and curly styles, type B and C Wavy hair is resistant to styling.
Curly hair is classified as a 3 -If you pull on it, it bounces back into its original curly state and hair has a tighter curl pattern. This hair type has a natural "S" curl pattern as it hangs. Granted, the S may be a lower case s or upper case S, or it may even resemble a Z on some occasions…however, there is a definite curl pattern in place, with our without products.
Sub categories: 3A,3B,3C.
3A hair types have a looser curl pattern.
3B hair has a tighter curl pattern.
3C hair has a tightly curly look and may look slightly kinky.
This type of hair has a lot of body and can be styled in many different styles. When wet, type 3 hair easily absorbs the water and shrinks quite a bit. But it is not as shiny as straight hair because the hair cannot reflect the light as easily. This type of hair can sometimes be a challenge to straighten, especially 3C hair. However, if you blow-dry and use a hot comb or straightener the hair will have a smoother sleeker finish.
Kinky hair is classified as a 4 - This hair type can range from fine/thin to wiry/coarse strand texturethis tightly coiled hair is quite fine and fragile. Each strand usually has a zig zag pattern. It is the most prone to breakage and requires a gentle touch. Treat this hair type like a fine silk blouse – cleanse gently, detangle softly, and avoid harsh chemicals.
Sub categories: 4A, 4B,4C
4A hair is tightly coiled , when stretched, has an "S" pattern, much like curly hair.
4B hair has a "Z" pattern, less of a defined curl pattern instead of curling or coiling, the hair bends in sharp angles like the letter "Z".
